The Regional Nutrition Committee extends assistance to Ivatans through the conduct of the Regional Nutrition Committee Caravan last 14 June 2017 at the Provincial Ground, Basco, Batanes.

As a kick off activity, walk for life at 5:00 in the morning was conducted around Basco proper. It was participated by Regional and Provincial Nutrition Committee members, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, BHWs, BNSs, Senior Citizens and staff of Local Government Unit of the province of Batanes.

Series of activities were conducted simultaneously by the RNC, the DOST conducted demonstration and distribution of ceramic water filters to the mothers of 6-24 months old young children. PhilHealth distributed umbrellas to the number of Senior Citizen of Batanes and enrolled them to PhilHealth as they gave information about the benefits of being enrolled in the program. DOLE also conducted Labor and Human Relation seminar to their target establishments and their employees.

On the other hand, a mother and child sessions were conducted, DSWD conducted a taste test of the Nutri-del complementary infant cereal among young children aged 6-24 months old. The Nutrition Officers of the different provinces and NNC staff talked about how to make the right food choices, importance of basic nutrients, breastfeeding and nutrition of pregnant and lactating mothers. After which, NNC gave a nutri-quiz and games for the mothers to assessed learnings from the nutrition information and education. DOH also distributed micro-nutrient powder to the mothers to sprinkle on the foods they prepare for their children.

The Caravan ended successfully and Ivatans were very thankful and appreciative of the opportunity and learnings given to them by the members of Regional Nutrition Committee.###mmm
