SOLANO, NUEVA VIZCAYA--------------The 2017 Nutrition Month celebration was jointly launched by the Regional Nutrition Committee, Region O2 and Provincial Nutrition Committee of Nueva Vizcaya on July 3, 2017 at Solano East Central School (SECS), Solano, Nueva Vizcaya.
This year’s Nutrition Month celebration campaign is on the promotion of healthy diets with the theme “Healthy diet, gawing habit – FOR LIFE!”
A zumba, as a kick-off activity, was participated by more than 2,000 students, teachers and other stakeholders in order to emphasize the importance of exercise in living a healthy lifestyle. The campaign also aims to increase awareness on the importance of healthy diets which protects against the double burden of malnutrition characterized by the coexistence of under-nutrition along with overweight and obesity, and diet-related non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases, and certain types of cancer.
Members of the Regional Nutrition Committee, Region 02 headed by Dr. Leticia Cabrera of DOH, R02 and OIC- NPC, Ms. Maria Gisela Lonzaga facilitated the launching program which was attended by Governor Carlos M. Padilla, former Governor Ruth R. Padilla, members of the Provincial Nutrition Committee, Municipal Nutrition Action Officers, officials from the Department of Education, and the school children of SECS who are recipients of the “Hula-hoop Project: Iwas Obesity” project of the province launched on October 2016.
After the opening preliminaries, these school children-beneficiaries listened to a lecture on Nutrition for School Children and joined in the skul-lympics aka “Laro ng lahi” to promote physical activity among school children.
“The program is important for the children and their future because a healthy person constitutes a healthy population,” the Governor said. He reminded that being healthy is being progressive.
There are 114 recipients of the “Hula-hoop Project” from selected public schools in Bambang, Aritao, Dupax del Norte and Solano. These overweight and obese students will be monitored and the one with the greatest weight lost will be awarded a cash prize of P5,000 from the Provincial Government during the culmination of the Nutrition Month. #bg
