BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, (PIA) – The provincial government here has launched the ‘hulahoop’ Project to further reduce the number of overweight schoolers in the province.
Luzviminda Ragpa, provincial nutrition officer, said the free distribution of hulahoops are now being done to encourage overweight pre-school children to reduce weight.
“These are distributed to schools where prevalence of overweight and obese children are high so that they can adopt healthier habits,” Ragpa said.
She said in 2016, at least 447 pre-school children were recorded overweight and obese while 1,471 were recorded with the same nutritional category.
Ragpa expressed optimism that the Hulahoop project will also encourage parents to join the exercise with their children.
