TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan,- - Donned in their ASEAN inspired attire, NNC R02 and other government and private employees, and representatives from civil society organizations (CSOs) joined the simultaneous nationwide ASEAN landmark lighting at the Tuguegarao City Hall, Regional Government Center, Carig Sur, Tuguegarao City on the night of 8 August 2017 as part of the ASEAN's 50th anniversary celebration.
As a kick off activity, a parade of ASEAN inspired torch was done.
With the theme “Under One Light, we are One ASEAN”, the commemorative event was simultaneously held in 74 key cities nationwide and in the capitals of the ASEAN member-states.
Honorable Bienvenido De Guzman II, Tuguegarao City Mayor, welcomed participants and acknowledged their efforts in attending such significant event. He also encouraged everyone to continuously unite in all undertakings of the Local Government Unit and other stakeholders.
De Guzman also stated that the lightning of torch symbolizes the flame of commitment of every Tuguegaraoeños in doing what is right and just. He also urged all sectors of society to support and participate in all ASEAN-related events and activities at the local and national levels as we are all committed to building a strong and resilient ASEAN Community with one vision and identity
Ms. Purita Licas, PIA regional director, also gave an overview of ASEAN and its history. She also shared the background of the ASEAN Anniversary Celebration.
Ms. Maria Gisela Lonzaga, NNC OIC-nutrition program coordinator, together with other regional directors and city mayor lighted the ASEAN torch as symbol of the ASEAN 50th anniversary celebration.
Lonzaga positively remarks that this celebration will give way to a stronger and more meaningful partnership between government agencies and other stakeholders.
The landmark lighting was immediately followed by an intermission number of selected students of Cagayan National High School.
