Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET) Region 02 planned for the 2018 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI) and Search for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars Evaluation during the RNET members meeting and orientation at Taj Hotel and Resto/Bar, Tuguegarao City on 23 February 2018.
“The National Nutrition Council, is mandated among others, to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the country’s food and nutrition program, the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN). Toward this mandate, the interagency NNC annually conducts the Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation or MELLPI since 1978. It aims to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of local governments in planning and implementing local nutrition programs.” Likewise, in conjunction with the MELLPI, the NNC also evaluates the performance of the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS).
The BNSs are the barangay-based volunteers tasked to coordinate the delivery of basic nutrition and related services in their respective area of assignments. Both the MELLPI and BNS evaluation are institutionalized activities since 1979 of the national and local nutrition committees.
OIC NPC Maria Gisela Lonzaga led the meeting with 8 members of the RNET present. This year’s MELLPI is chaired by Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Region 02 represented by Ms. Delia De Guzman, and co-chaired by Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 02 represented by Ms. Nenita Yabis. RNET agreed for the schedule of MELLPI 2018, schedules are as follow:
a. Ilagan City – March 26- 28 and April 30 (BNS)
b. Nueva Vizcaya – April 2-6
c. Batanes – April 24-27
d. Quirino – May 2-4
e. Cagayan – 16-18
f. Tuguegarao City - May 15
g. Cauayan City- May 24
h. Santiago City- May 25
i. Isabela – May 29, 31 and June 1
OIC Lonzaga discussed with the team the MELLPI Tools and agreed on the assignments of each team member.
