BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, (PIA) -- The barangay nutrition workers in this province has come up with a ‘Nutri Snacks’ to encourage healthy eating among malnourished schoolers.
Produced by the Nueva Vizcaya Barangay Nutrition Scholars Federation (NVBNSF), the ‘Nutri-Snacks’ is made from banana, carrots, saluyot, malunggay, squash, taro, sweet potato and monggo/rice while some are even flavored with cheese.
NVBNSF members will be selling and distributing these ‘Nutri-Snacks’ to schools and to interested retailers. The group made the ‘Nutri Snacks’ using the funding assistance given earlier by the SN Aboitiz PowerMagat Inc. (SNAP-MAGAT) amounting to P600,000 as part of the firm’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.
Dr. Edwin Galapon, provincial health officer, said the ‘Nutri Snacks’ is one of the interventions made by the nutrition workers to lower the malnutrition incidence in the province.
He said the province is still above the national average on the incidence of overweight and obese schoolchildren. (ALM/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
