Headed by Assistant Secretary of Health and Executive Director Maria- Bernardita T. Flores, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) Management Team composed of Nutrition Program Coordinators from different regions across the country and Division Chiefs of NNC Central Office flew to Batanes last 12 May 2014 for the 2nd NNC Management Conference (ManCon).
The 5- day NNC ManCon took place at the Department of Agriculture- Batanes Experiment Station on 12-15 May 2014 bounded by the dynamic culture and enchanting scenery in Batanes. The conference was set to update on the status of various programs, projects and activities; tackle and resolve issues on nutrition policy and plan development, promotion of good nutrition, monitoring and evaluation and; discuss other concerns with regards to the operations of NNC.
NNC- Region 02 led by Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhodora G. Maestre hosted the said conference. In coordination with the Provincial Nutrition Committee and Provincial Tourism Office, NNC- Region 02 arranged different set of tours for the NNC Management Team to discover the undisturbed and unspoiled beauty of the Province of Batanes.
In the Batan Island tour, the team had a chance to visit the Boulder Beach at Valugan, Basco, Dipnaysupuan Japanese Tunnel, Fundacion Pacita Nature Lodge, DOST Facility Tower and St. Carmel Chapel. Other tourist attractions visited were the Batanes National Museum, San Jose Church, House of Dakay, Old Spanish Bridge, San Carlos Borromeo Church, Shelter Port, Chawa View Deck, Vayang Rolling Hills, and Basco Lighthouse.
Combined with the exciting tour is a visit to the Nutriskwela Radyo Kayvayvanan Community Radio Station witnessing a live broadcast of the Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon of Batanes.
To mark a satisfying conference in Batanes, a Sabtang Island Tour and a visit to the famous Honesty Coffee Shop was showcased before the team’s departure. Various delicacies and specialties of the Province were also enjoyed during the 5-day conference.
After all, the conference held in Batanes, a Nutrition Honor Awardee was indeed a valuable and memorable experience for the NNC Management Team.
