da 1TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan -After the success of the ‘Gulayan sa Paaralan’ project to support food security campaign in schools, the Department of Agriculture (DA) in the Cagayan Valley Region will be promoting vegetable gardening in the regional government offices here.

According to DA Regional Director Narciso Edillo, a number of regional directors have already expressed their support to the project, knowing the benefits of raising their own vegetable supplies in their respective offices.

“This is one way of ensuring food security not only in the rural areas but in the urban areas as well to include the regional government center,” Edillo said.

He said they will come up with the guidelines through the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) before they will start giving seeds or seedlings and technical assistance to interested regional offices.

Edillo, on the other hand, urged the public particularly the farmer groups to support the DA's organic farming program.

He said they are helping local and organic producers in the region through the establishment of the TienDA (store), a marketing initiative of DA which aims to provide a direct trading center for farmers and fisherfolk and provide fresh and quality food to the public at farm gate price.
