TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, (PIA) – The National Nutrition Council (NNC) here encouraged government workers to practice healthy habits in their workplace to ensure good health of employees.
Ma. Gisela Lonzaga, nutrition program coordinator here said the Regional Nutrition Committee has already passed a resolution urging regional offices and local government units to observe healthy eating habits by serving nutritious and healthy foods and snacks during meetings, conferences, trainings and other government conventions.
She said this practice has been implemented by the Department of Education in all its offices and schools, serving only healthy foods and beverages and no junk foods.
Lonzaga said employees are also advised to stand once in a while and walk every after an hour of prolonged sitting or vice versa. She said sitting down the whole say is next to smoking, meanings it’s dangerous to one’s health.
Offices are also encouraged to have their own “Gulayan sa Opisina”, as a version of the DepEd’s Gulayan sa Paaralan to ensure that safe and fresh fruits and vegetables are made available. (MDCT/GVB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
