CABARROGUIS, Quirino,(PIA)— The province and two of its towns, Diffun and Saguday are among the subnational locations for the study of the Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) on current Multi-Sectoral Programming for Nutrition in the Philippines.
In its letter sent to the Provincial Nutrition Council here, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) said it recommended the said areas to be among the subnational locations for ENN’s study scoping visits to document good practices in nutrition.
ENN is a UK based organization focused on strengthening evidence and know-how for effective nutrition interventions in countries prone to crisis and high levels of malnutrition.
Dr. Charulatha Banerjee who works as Regional Knowledge Management Specialist with ENN was recently here to interview local officials, provincial and municipal nutrition council member-agencies as well as barangay nutrition committees to be able to understand the history of nutrition plans and programs, the burden of malnutrition and the different multi-sectoral nutrition programs on nutrition that have supported nutrition improvement in the province.
Among the agencies interviewed were: Office of the Provincial Agriculture, Department of Education, Department of Health, Provincial Health Office, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry and others.
During Banerjee’s interaction with the said agencies, she gathered information on the members’ level of awareness as well as their perception on the multisectoral approach of the Philippine Plan of action for Nutrition (PPAN) implementation, challenges met during implementation, innovations and other issues.
The Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) members here in their interaction with the Emergency Nutrition Network (ENN) shared that all their nutrition programs and projects are in support to the province’s goal of eliminating malnutrition problems in the province.
Banerjee also interacted with the municipal and barangay nutrition committees of Saguday and Diffun for the same purposes. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
