Tuguegarao City--- As part of strengthening the implementation of RNC Resolution No. 1 Series of 2019, “Strengthening the Promotion of Healthy Lifestyle at the Regional Government Offices and Local Government Units” the National Nutrition Council together with Department of Agriculture and member of Media visited and evaluated the first set of participating member agencies’ Gulayan sa Opisina, namely BFAR, NEDA and DENR.

Judges were amazed by the dedication and commitment of member agencies’ in establishing and maintaining their respective gulayan sa opisina despite of their limited space, busy schedules and extreme weather conditions.

Various vegetables and some fruit bearing trees were among the planted varieties in their respective offices. During the evaluation process, judges asked the member agencies on how they plan to sustain the implementation of their gulayan sa opisina. Ms. Maripi Asino, RTAN-DENR, said that they were selling their product to their employees and to other offices and recorded their income and sometimes gave it to their utility workers as bonuses during end of the year. “Minsan po if Malaki yung kinita at naipon pinaghahatian po ng utility namin kasi part sila ng nagmamaintain netong garden. Sa ganitong paraan naiinspire sila para mas maalagaan pa at mamunga ang ating gulayan,” she happily shared.

On the other hand, BFAR employees harvested their vegetables and do a mini boodle fight during lunch or break in order to develop camaraderie and also taste their own grown vegetables. While NEDA employees followed the issued memorandum from their regional director that every Friday is their garden day which will ensure the sustainability of the program. They also shared their produced to other nearby offices.

Other RNC’s gardens are set to be judge on March onwards and winners will be announced during the Nutrition Month Celebration and will be given prizes courtesy of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 02.### (JNLB)
