July 2020 is the 46th Nutrition Month, and the National Nutrition Council Region 02 changed its plans for the regional celebration to adopt to the #NewNormal. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect many nations, including the Philippines, many programs, projects and activities of all sectors, including the government, shifted to the virtual and digital means to continue implementing key services for the people. Several contests in relation to the theme: “Batang Pinoy, Sana Tall…Iwas Stunting, Sama All! Iwas All din sa COVID-19” were conducted. Local Government Units and other stakeholders participated in the activities.
An Online Poster Making Contest were joined by the Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs) and high school students in the region. BNSs from Cagayan, City of Cauayan, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Santiago City submitted their entries. Students from Quirino, Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, City of Ilagan, City of Cauayan and Santiago City showed their knowledge on stunting and nutrition though arts.
My First 1000 Days Journey: A Short Writing Contest aims to share personal journeys of mothers in ensuring proper health and nutrition for themselves and their babies during the First 1000 Days of Life. Mrs. Janet Rimban of Tuguegarao City, Mrs. Benjielyn Pagulayan of City of Ilagan, Mrs. Devrah Senador of City of Cauayan, Mrs. Divina Barreto of Quirino Province, Mrs. Jerraliza Tannagan of Nueva Vizcaya, and Mrs. Sherelyn Cardenas of Cagayan Province proudly shared their own stories and tell the importance of proper health and nutrition in achieving the full potentials of their children.
LGUs proudly shared their secret recipes in the “Search for the Best Young Child’s Meal for 12-23 Months Old Children”. The submitted entries are the “Nutri-Kalabasa” of the City of Cauayan, “Sardinas Hardinera” of Cagayan Province, “Kalabasa Malunggay Carrot Oregano Puree with Rice” of Nueva Vizcaya, and “Squarrot con Malunggay Sauce” of the Province of Quirino.
Eight (8) entries for the ”Search for Batang Natayag sa Rehiyon Dos” were collected from the LGUs in the region to identify the tallest 3-5 years old children in the region who were taken care of properly by their mothers and caregivers. Exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months, completed immunization, and complementary food were introduced only after 6 months of the child.
All entries were posted in the official Facebook Page of National Nutrition Council Region 02. 10% of the overall results will come from the likes, engagements, and activities made in the posted entries for each category. Judging for all the contests will be done on July 24 and July 27 and winners will be announced on the Online Culminating Activity of National Nutrition Council Region 02 which will be aired on July 30, 2020.
