CABARROGUIS, Quirino, July 27 (PIA)—Around 1,065 NutriVeggie packs were delivered to families with malnourished children in Saguday and Cabarroguis towns by the provincial government through the Provincial Nutrition Committee as part of the province’s programs and services this Nutrition Month.

Each of the NutriVeggie Pack contains fresh vegetables like Baguio beans, tomatoes, pipino, eggplant, ampalaya, and sayote which were purchased from the members of the Quirino Upland Farmers.

According to Luningning Pacudan Rhodes, provincial nutrition coordinator, this initiative hits two birds at the same because the provincial government is not only improving the health and nutrition status of the malnourished children but also helping the farmers in marketing their produce.

“Ang ating mga magsasaka ay nahihirapan ngayong magtinda ng kanilang mga ani sa palengke dahil sa pandemyang dulot ng COVID-19 kung kaya’t nagpapasalamat po tayo sa Office of the Governor sa suporta sa mga magsasaka,” Rhodes said.

Rhodes also thanked the Q-Life, Provincial Tourism Office, Quirino Watersports Complex and the offices of the municipal mayors of Saguday and Cabarroguis for their support for the success of the said project.

Furthermore, Rhodes said this is just one of the many programs and projects of the provincial government to combat malnutrition.

Based on the data provided the Provincial Nutrition Office, of the 26,813 preschool children, 184 are underweight, 667 are identified as stunting and 95 as wasting.

For the school children, of the 27,118, 660 are identified as wasting and 5,099 as stunting.

Meanwhile, Orlan Baliton of the Provincial Tourism Office said, the second wave of NutriVeggie packs distribution for Diffun and Aglipay is now ongoing. (MDCT/TCB/PIA 2-Quirino)
