The National Nutrition Council Region 02 recognized outstanding Local Nutrition Committees in the recently concluded nutrition month online activities during the online 2020 Nutrition Month Culmination last 03 August 2020, the #NewNormal way.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Maria Gisela M. Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator- NNC RO2, applauded the efforts of different Local Nutrition Committees in submitting their entries despite the current pandemic that we are facing right now.
“This year’s celebration of nutrition month did away with the usual celebration with mass gatherings and participation, instead, it gave way to the #NewNormal activities. Regional and local celebrations shifted on the use of social media platforms and virtual activities,” she stressed.
A total of five online contests- Batang NatayagsaRehiyon Dos, Search for Best Young Child’s Meal for 12-23 months old children, F1K Short Story Writing Contest, Poster Making Contest and 2020 HimigNutrisyon: Nutri-Jingle Contest - were participated by Provincial and City Nutrition Committees in the region.
The search for Batang Natayag sa Rehiyon Dos aimed to highlight the importance of getting appropriate health andnutrition services in the First 1000 Days of Life in achieving their child’s full potential in terms of growth and development. The Search for Best Young Child’s Meal for 12-23 months old children aims to highlight the importance of giving timely, adequate, and appropriate complementary food in the prevention of stunting as an essential part of the First 1000 Days of Life approach.
These activities were judged by Regional Technical Assistant for Nutrition (RTANs) Ms. Nerissa Mabbayad of DOH RO2, Ms. Delia De Guzman of DSWD RO2, and Ms. Editha Ubiña of DepEd RO2.
The following were winners of the said online contests who bagged home certificates of recognition and Php 1,500.00 cash prize for the Search for BatangNatayag and certificates of recognition and Php 3,500.00, Php 2, 500.00 and Php 2, 000.00 for first, second and third place for the Search for Best Young Child’s Meal for 12-23 months old children, respectively:

To promote the importance of the first 1000 days of a child’s life in a personal point of view, chosen mothers of LNCs competed for the F1K Short Story Writing Contest. Online Poster Making Contest was also held to highlight the 2020 Nutrition Month theme through an artistic way.
The writing contest was judged by Mr. Benjamin De Yro, Editor from Northern Forum, Mr. Oliver Baccay of Information Officer-PIA RO2, and Ms. Vivian De Guzman, Broadcast Program Supervisor of DWPE Radyo Pilipinas. The online contest is open to all mothers with personal experiences in giving properhealth and nutrition interventions to her child during the First 1000 Days of Life. The mother’s child must be aged 2 to 5 years old at the time of this contest. The first place brought home Php 2,000.00 and a certificate of recognition, and the 2nd place brought home Php 1,500.00 and a certificate of recognition while the 3rd place brought home Php 1,000.00 and a certificate of recognition. Poster making contest were in two categories - BNS and High School student categories. This contest was judged by Architect Julious Buraga, Mr. Mark Djeron Tumabao, News Editor of PIA RO2, and Ms. Nerissa Mabbayad, RTAN from DOH RO2. The first place brought home Php 2,000.00 and a certificate of recognition, and the 2nd place brought home Php 1,500.00 and a certificate of recognition while the 3rd place brought home Php 1,000.00 and a certificate of recognition.The following were the winners of the online activity:

Lastly, for the 2020 Himig Nutrisyon: Nutri Jingle Contest, a total of five entries competed for the online contest. The judges for this contest are Mr. Romuald LaMadrid, Music Coordinator of CSU Andrews Campus, Mr. Jan Justin Rodriguez, Program Coordinator of CSU Carig Campus and Ms. Angely Mercado, Officer-in-Charge- PIA RO2. The winners brought of certificates of recognition and cash prizes – Php 5,000.00 for the first place, Php 4,500.00 for the second place, and Php 4,000.00 for the third place.The following were the winners of the online contest:

The 2020 Online Nutrition Culmination program ended through the closing remarks of Director Jonathan Paul Leusen Jr., Regional Director of DILG RO2, where he praised the efforts of NNC in combating stunting and its irreversible effects.
“It is in this regard that I applaud and congratulate the National Nutrition Council with their slogan “Batang Pinoy, Sana Tall, Iwas stunting, Sama All!, Iwas All din saCOVID-19” It is very apt and timely given the current predicament of, not only our nation, but of the entire world. Despite this, I implore everyone, let us continue to achieve our goals through our resilience and wits augmented further by proper nutrition,” he emphasized.
The 2020 Nutrition Month Celebration, despite having pandemic and restriction to mass gatherings, recorded atleast a thousand views (including late viewers) and 150 online live viewers and indeed successfully celebrated in the region.###JNLB
