More than anything else these pandemic times, quick and timely information delivery management is a must. Despite the presence of traditional media, the best way to reach a wider target audience is thru social media.
This must have been the reason behind the project Webby Awards launched by the National Nutrition Council in 2014 and started giving recognition to their own people and outside the agency to improve further the provision of health and nutrition information.
While social media allows one to connect with people as it provides varied platforms, the NNC project has become the totality of what information dissemination for the agency is.
With the project, it sufficiently provided information and allows a wider target audience to think about health and nutrition issues as it educates themselves thru such information
For the NNC, it is a platform to help target audience understand the importance of what the agency wanted to convey as quickly, timely and appropriately as possible.
they say, is nothing more than motivating other people.
For the agency, it was a win-win situation; motivating its people to maximize what they can and help develop a culture of good health and nutrition among the Filipinos.
A document furnished by NNC region 2, says, “since 2014, it has been noted that there were critical performance indicators that were not singularly captured and recognized by the annual awards.”
COVID-19 came and ruled the world first quarter this year. But NNC top level management was unfazed. With numerous protocols to adhere with, the seven -year old award-giving body transformed itself into what is called the NNC-Quarterly Special Webby Awards which had its Virtual launch, October 2, this year, in lieu of the national annual event.
This time, it recognizes meritorious performances in the management of NNC web pages among regions in the country under various categories while the different units at its Central Office has their own share of a category.
Under the award, the recognition is not limited to NNC webpages but also performances in the management of official social media accounts.
The progeny of the annual award was aimed to establish a system for the quarterly recognition of outstanding webpages and social media accounts of the NNC as it likewise wants to set a standard of excellence in the content and overall management of NNC regional websites.
Consider the categories; highest number of articles posted, most visited webpage, highest number of likes, highest social media engagement, highest social media reach and most visible social media account.
During the virtual launching of the awards this month, NNC Region 2 was awarded 2nd in four of the six categories; highest social media reach, highest social media engagement, most visible social media page and highest number of articles posted.
“We don’t want to take credit for these awards but the stakeholders who made it possible. We simply tried our best to reach for a wider audience to disseminate whatever health and nutrition information we have on our hands,” Meggie Lonzaga, regional nutrition coordinator told The Northern Forum.
Winning national awards is nothing new to NNC Region 2. Records show that since the inception of the agency’s Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony, the region was never wanting of such as all provinces and cities in Cagayan Valley have been proclaimed Hall of Fame awardees at one time or another - to include various municipalities.
In the end, while it’s nice to win awards, it will be nicer for NNC Region 2 to keep moving forward to reach its widest audience.
That, my dear, would be the greatest award it can receive under COVID-19 pandemic.
