The Regional Sub - Committee for the Welfare of Children under the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) regional office and its partner agencies where National Nutrition Council Region 02 is a member agency set several activities to highlight the celebration of the National Children’s Month this coming October.
Lucia Alan, head of the Program Standard Unit of the department, said this year’s theme “Kahirapan Wakasan, Karapatan ng Bata Ipaglaban,” highlights that poverty reduction starts with children.
The celebration aims to encourage stakeholders to help reduce poverty and to advocate for stronger holistic actions, particularly preventive measures to address problems on poverty.
Among the activities identified is the conduct of press conference through he Philippine Information Agency’s (PIA) regular program “Tipon-Tipan sa PIA” to draw awareness among the populace on the significance of the celebration. Children leaders will also be invited to inspire other young children on their role to help fight poverty.
A two-day Children’s Congress will also be held to be participated by children of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries.
During the congress, children will compete in the On-the-Spot Poster and Essay Writing Contest and lectures and film viewing on the rights of children.
The department, through the assistance of its partner agencies like the PIA, the Department of Education (DepEd), and the National Nutrition Council (NNC) will conduct a Nutri Jingle Contest which deals on the role of children to promote nutrition and address poverty. There will be a provincial level contest and winners will compete in the regional level to choose the best three jingles.
The top three entries will be invited to perform during the culminating activity tentatively scheduled last week of October. Winning jingles will be aired in local and community radio stations in the region.
Other activities include forum on Child’s Rights with media practitioners, 1st Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon Friendship Camp and thanksgiving mass among others. (GVB-bee)
