NNC R2 COVID 19 Recovery Accomplishments Issues

The National Nutrition Council Region 2 presented the accomplishments vis-à-vis the Sub-Task Group Implementation Plan and Issues to the Regional Task Force Recovery Cluster for COVID-19 last 26 March 2021, organized by the NEDA Cagayan Valley Region.

Under the subtask group on Social Recovery, the 2020 accomplishments of the National Nutrition Council R2 were included in the report presented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 2, as head of the Sub-Task Group on Social Recovery. Among the presented accomplishments of NNC R2 were the approval of 3 Regional Nutrition Committee Resolutions, including the strengthening of regional nutrition cluster, integrating nutrition in local development and investment plans, and support to utilization of enhanced nutribun for dietary supplementation. The provision to local government units of tarpaulins on No Milk Donation Policy and EO 51 or the Milk Code of the Philippines was also included in the report. The report also highlighted the relevant and timely nutrition information and dissemination done through the social media and radio and the provision of technical assistance to local government units in the management of their nutrition program. The provision of COVID-19 protection kit that includes face mask, face shield, and alcohol to Barangay Nutrition Scholars and bantay asin checkpoints was also pointed up.  NNC R2 also posted BNS Action pictures during COVID-19 Pandemic and made Daily Reporting of Public Health Service Team relative to COVID-19. Maintenance of home and community gardens were also promoted to ensure food security in the region, especially amid the COVID 19 pandemic.

For the challenges, limited manpower and mobility, especially during enhanced community quarantine status of LGUs disrupted several nutrition services, aside from the risk of contracting the COVID-19. As corrective measures, the agency relied on digital technologies like conducting meetings online and strengthening our social media and web pages. Some nutrition activities were either deferred or modified accordingly.

As the COVID-19 pandemic still affects the region, the NNC R2, together with the Sub-Task Group on Social Recovery, plans to continue the formulation of relevant nutrition and COVID-19 policies, monitoring of compliance to National Nutrition Cluster Advisories 1 and 2, monitoring of nutrition program implementation in the region, dissemination of nutrition and COVID-19, and strengthening the capacity of regional line agencies and local government units to combat malnutrition and COVID-19. - EMArcinue
