The event was held to share updates and insights on the policies, programs, and accomplishments of the current administration. Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, also the current head of the Interagency Task Force on Zero Hunger, presented the accomplishments of the region related to ending hunger and highlighted the importance of nutrition.
As mandated by Executive Order 101, s. 2020, the Task Force on Zero Hunger performed its duties and responsibilities to end hunger. As part of the accomplishments, he mentioned the support of the Regional Nutrition Committee of Region 02 in the Key Result Areas of the Program. On Key Result Area No. 3 - Secure Nutrition Adequacy, he commended the efforts of the Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) to support this endeavor by passing RNC Resolution No. 2, s. 2020 - "Enjoining All Local Government Units to Strengthen the Integration of Nutrition Programs, Projects, and Activities in Their 2021-2022 Annual Investment Programs to Prevent Worsening of Nutrition Situation Amid COVID-19 Pandemic" and RNC Resolution No. 3, s. 2020 - "A Resolution Endorsing and Supporting the Utilization of Enhanced Nutribun for Supplementary Feeding". He also highlighted the support of the National Nutrition Council on capacity development through Nutrition in Emergencies Training conducted in 2020 for the 10 LGUs in the region, workshops on integrating nutrition in local development and investment programs and orientation on 2021 Electronic Operation Timbang Plus. NNC Region 2 also participated in Kasapatan at Ugnayan para sa Akmang Pagkain at Nutrisyon (KUMAIN) and Pilipinas Kontra Gutom virtual consultation meetings as part of KRA 6 – Ensure information, education, awareness, and people participation.
The inclusion, complementation, and prioritization of nutrition programs from the national level down to the local government units is one of the strategic thrusts of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022. In the region, the multisectoral approach of Regional Nutrition Committee 02 had been effective in implementing nutrition programs and in the reduction of malnutrition in the region. More innovations, programs such as the Tutok Kainan, a dietary supplementation program for pregnant women, convergence of regional line agencies, and activities down to the barangay levels will be implemented and strengthened in the region to continue the fight on ending hunger and malnutrition. - EMArcinue
