CITY OF ILAGAN, ISABELA- With seven years as Barangay Nutrition Scholar, BNS Hilda Benigno of Santiago City, has proven that her willingness and dedication to improve the nutrition situation of Barangay Sta. Rosa pushed her to win the 1st Runner up 2019 Regional Outstanding BNS.
The jolly and outgoing personality of this 35 year old BNS has enabled her to befriend mothers and caregivers and gain their trust enough to listen to her nutrition advices. Her determination has not only helped change the feeding and caring practices of mothers in her barangay but has also helped her gain good relations and acquiring support from her Barangay Nutrition Committee (BNC) members and ensured its functionality throughout the years.
BNS Hilda has made it her mission to make sure that mothers in her community know how to take care of their children, particularly have a better awareness on proper hygiene. Her advocacies have also made her and her barangay come up with their banner project “Sta. Rosa Malunggay Chips.”
The project’s profit from these chips gave way to an additional fund that was used for the implementation of various nutrition programs in the barangay.
With BNS HiLDA’s efforts supported by her BNC, barangay Sta Rosa has consistent zero prevalence of undernutrition for the past three years.####John Nestor Ballad
