The National Nutrition Council (NNC) region 2 has gathered some media practitioners all over Cagayan Valley Region in Baguio City to help them widen the awareness campaign and advocacies on nutrition.
Rhodora G. Maestre, nutrition program coordinator during the three-day workshop said, media has been a vital tool of the council to reach out the public to promote good nutrition as the government is struggling to achieve Millennium Development Goal (MDG) Number 1 which is to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
Representatives of media entities from different stations and outlets presented their programs and commitments to promote good nutrition in the region for 2013.
“We will tap all means of medium to communicate to the public programs and information to achieve good nutrition and health of the communities because a healthy society is a vehicle towards a developed country,” Maestre said.
She also commended media practitioners for their active participation and sincere commitment in helping promote good nutrition all over the region.
Last year, Cagayan Valley bagged five major awards in the national nutrition awarding ceremonies.
Maestre attributed it to the efforts of the nutrition officials in the different provinces, cities and municipalities with the full support of the media practitioners.
“I am expecting for more partnership for enhanced programs over radios, cable TVs, prints and the electronic media on nutrition related information as this is our backbone to achieve the government’s thrust of improving nutrition of the people,” Maestre added.
