Looking back, the Nutriskwela Community Radio Station in the municipality of Claveria came like a precious gift that should be treasured for a life time. Pondering on its main purpose to “provide people’s access to accurate and balanced information and to provide them a forum for sharing information among community members,” DZND 97.7 Radyo Kalugaran (that’s the name of our station) keeps to do its role to the community through credible broadcasting every passing of the year.
DZND 97.7 Radyo Kalugaran starts it broadcasting activity at 5:00 in the morning until 9:00 in the evening. It has 5 regular employees who are responsible of its day to day operation.
For almost two years now of conquering the air lanes spreading news and information “to improve the nutritional status of the community people by arming them with correct, up-to-date messages on nutrition and by providing them access to other educational and development information, DZND 97.7 Radyo Kalugaran is trying its best to improve every aspect of its department for the welfare of its listening public.
We now present to you a summary of our accomplishments for this year:
ON PROGRAMMING
For this year, we can say we have, at least, improved our programming because of the inclusion of some practices identified as follows:
Since the radio primarily advocates good nutrition, it makes use of related-nutrition titles of some of its programs like KALUGARAN, WAKE UP NA AIRED AT 5:00 am-6:00 am to promote the importance of waking up early to be energized as we face our routinary activities the whole day, USAPANGALMUSAL aired from 6:00 am- 7:30 am which tackles some national and local issues, nutrition related issues, greetings among others, LGU HOUR aired at 9:00 am – 10 am which aims to disseminate information about the services and activities of the different departments of the LGU and other government agencies, SIKA KEN TI SALUN-AT (IKAW AT ANG KALUSUGAN) aired at 10:00 am to 11:00 am which tackles health related problems, and LUNCH TIME NA KALUGARAN aired at 11:00 am - 1:00 pm accepts greetings, plays music, reading of NNC materials and pluggings. Top of the Hour News is somehow introduced which covers one national or local news and a nutrition news story.
The announcers (who serve as DJ’s) also use radio names related to fruits and vegetables like Charlemon for Charlie Bautista, Pineapple Jun for Jun Naceno,for Baby Erlyn Cadang, Pipinos for Inos Tablada.
BATANG RADYO SA NUTRISYON
Based on the regional nutrition survey, one of the causes of malnutrition is poor dietary and health habits and practices resulting from poor nutrition knowledge and other interrelated factors. This is what the BATANG RADYO SA NUTRISYON envisions to address through This is a unique way to propagate the mass information for good nutrition by way of using the skills of elementary and high school students in radio broadcasting since Radio broadcasting is a co-curricular school activity of the Department of Education under the general program of campus journalism.
Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon is a 30-minute radio program that aims to increase nutrition awareness among school children through nutrition messages over the radio. It includes straight nutrition related news, infomercial, poem reading and discussion on nutrition and related stories, nutri-greetings, interviews, nutri-quiz on air and some others that are related to the promotion of good nutrition.
Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon of Claveria was launched last October 12 after undergoing a rigid training in radio broadcasting with Mr. Ding Fugaban as their trainor with the assistance of the technical staff of NNC Region 02 .
The launching was a success as evident in the reactions, comments, text messages of the townspeople of Claveria. A parade around the town was done to herald the BRN team. This is one way to encourage them to listen to Nutriskwela Radyo Kalugaran, Community Radio Station. The launching was led by the no less than Director Rhodora Maestre, Nutrition Program Coordinator of the National Nutrition Council Region 02 and her technical staff, the Local Executive of Claveria Honorable Celia T. Layus, Mr. Ding Fugaban, NNC Media Coordinator, Mr. Inocencio Tablada, Station Manager, BRN coaches, Mr. Bernard Estavillo of the high school and Mrs. Jackelyn Campos of the elementary.
After the parade, the BRN proceeded to the Grassroots Multi-purpose Cooperative Bldg. for the opening program and launching. Certificates of Participation and recognition were awarded to BRN members for their active involvement and valuable services in the promotion of good nutrition. Live broadcast followed to culminate the launching.
Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon of Claveria,Cagayan is aired every Saturday, 9:00-9:30 in the morning.
ON THE TECHNICAL SIDE
With an aim to improve the signal of our radio station, it has added dampro antenna this year that paves the way for a better audio output a wider signal coverage. We already have a proposal to our Local Chief Executive in the person of Hon. Celia T. Layus, M.D. for the gadgets to be acquired that would even make our broadcasting activity a more effective one.
These are our humble accomplishments for the calendar year 2012. With our desire to be of service and to make our broadcasting activity even better, we are opening our doors to whatever opportunities there may be that would make each of us a truly agent of good nutrition.
