Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – National Nutrition Council Region II represented by Nutrition Officer III Edzell Arcinue and Nutrition officer II Frances Vea Valdez, together with District Nutrition Program Coordinator Rizza Ibañez of Province of Cagayan, conducted a monitoring visit in Local Government Unit of Buguey, Cagayan on their implementation of Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program.

Designated Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Cherryl Talosig, with other Municipal Nutrition staff of Buguey, guided the team to the beneficiaries, BNSs and key person to monitor the progress of the implementation. There are forty-five (45) nutritionally at-risk pregnant and lactating women in Buguey that are covered in the said supplementation program.

Beneficiaries were provided with wet feeding based on the cycle menu provided by NNC Central Office and others were given with nutribun. Barangays also provided their counterpart by giving additional support on transportation, kitchen needs, and equipment to the BNSs. Furthermore, BNSs shared their experiences on the preparation of food, challenges encountered and impact to the beneficiaries.

            NNC Region 02 team also met with Mayor Lloyd Antiporda to advocate for the creation of plantilla positions for nutrition workers and the establishment of their nutrition office. Mayor Antiporda asked MNAO Talosig to coordinate with Municipal Planning and Development Officer the creation of these positions by next year.

Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program aims to contribute to the prevention of stunting among children 0-23 months by giving improved quality and quantity of food and nutrient intakes and utilization of related ECCD F1K services among nutritionally-at-risk pregnant women.
