CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela– The City Government of Cauayan through its 'Food Bank on Wheels’ aimed to make the city’s feeding program more accessible to not only malnourished children-beneficiaries but also to nutritionally at risk pregnant and lactating women especially those from the far flung barangays in the city.
The Tutok Kainan DSP which was provided by NNC Central Office had last 15 February. However, the CNC Cauayan City ensures its continuous implementation through the Food Bank on wheels.
The Food Bank on Wheels is equipped with mobile kitchen paraphernalia that are to prepare nutritious foods for the NAR beneficiaries to help improve their nutritional status.
Mayor Bernard Faustino Dy said it was part of the local government’s advocacy to achieve its goal of 'zero hunger’ under the Global Goals or Sustainable Goals and the objective was to make sure that Cauayeños were eating well.
Cauayan City has been waging a fight against hunger and malnutrition, and its efforts had been paying off in recent years.
It is recalled that the city government had already an established stationary food bank and since its inception, it had been regularly conducting feeding program in schools. The city government recognizes that its services was limited only to beneficiaries near the food bank.
“We are happy with the Tutok Kainan DSP and we would like to continue this program through Food bank on wheels,” Ms. Mary Jane Yadao, Nutrition Officer, said.
She said the Food Bank on Wheels is also utilized during disasters to prepare foods for the evacuees.
The local chief executive had also called on all grocery and sari-sari store owners to continue donating food products for the food bank to be used in during feeding program of the city for the benefit of Cauayeño school children. ###John Nestor Ballad
