r02 Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon Radio Program Launched in Lal-lo Cagayan 2012The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Region 2 launched the “Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon” program, August 24, 2012 at DWRL 95.1 FM in partnership with the Municipal Nutrition Committee of Lal-lo and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Maria Olivia B. Pascual.

The program is aimed to enhance school children’s skills in broadcasting towards the promotion of good nutrition.

31 school children, aged 6 to 12, were selected from different elementary schools and divided into three; they will take alternate schedules in going on-air. Each team is composed of an anchor, co-anchor, and five reporters. The "Batang Radyo" is aired every Saturday 7:00 – 8:00 am.

 

They underwent a one and a half training in radio broadcasting under the supervision of Mr. Ding Fugaban and Ms. Benjielyne Estudillo, official trainers of the Batang Radyo sa Nutrisyon program. The training took place at the AVR of Lal-lo National High School.

Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhodora Maestre said the program is the first and a most unique advocacy tool of the council in the country, using children in educating the public on good nutrition envisioned to address malnutrition prevalence rate in the region.

Maestre said that the team will give news flashes and updates on nutrition programs, activities, and initiatives, and live interviews with some personalities and officials who are members of the nutrition council to further educate the public on nutrition and health as well as to keep the public abreast of the region’s nutritional status.

Further, Maestre said school children are the best advocates in promoting good nutrition especially to young children as well as the mothers who are preparing the food of the children everyday.

The radio nutrition program will also be established next in the city of Cauayan and municipality of Claveria in the next few days to saturate the information dissemination and campaign to promote good nutrition, in coordination with the local nutrition committees and partnership with the Balay ni IFAN media task force.
