TUGUEGARAO CITY, The National Nutrition Council 2 (NNC) in partnership with City Nutrition Committee of Tuguegarao and Philippine Broadcasting Services – DWPE Radyo ng Bayan launched August 17, 2012 a daily 30- minute Nutrition School on the Air program dubbed “Paaralang Panghimpapawid.”
NNC Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Rhodora G. Maestre said the Nutrition School on the Air aimed to bring across messages on good nutrition and efforts of the government to address hunger and malnutrition to the general public.
“The Nutrition School on the Air has three batches of classes and PBS and NNC piloted Tuguegarao City its first batch of class,” Maestre added.
The radio program has 20 lessons which will be aired from August 14 to September 2012, every 11:00 – 11:30 am, at DWPE Radyo ng Bayan hosted by Mercy B. Quinan while Vivian de Guzman is in charge of the overall NSOA operations.
Enrollees are the barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) with their 4 recruits from the community and initially, there were a total of 170 enrollees from different barangays here.
Maestre said the topics are about vegetables and fruits nutrition facts and health benefits, breastfeeding, healthy lifestyle and many more.
At the end of the show, the host will give a question excerpt from the topic discussed that will be answered by the enrollees.
Top three from BNS and community will receive a cash award on their graduation rites.
Meanwhile, Maestre encouraged listeners to put into practice in their day to day life what they will be learning in the radio program.
