The National Nutrition Council wants your thoughts on what should be the theme for the 2014 Nutrition Month celebration.
This after NNC Manila issued to its regional offices the mechanics of the said competition.
Rhodora G. Maestre, Nutrition Program Coordinator for Region 02, citing the mechanics, said the theme will center on nutrition in emergencies.
The NNC technical committee earlier approved the focus of the theme considering the impact of emergencies and natural disasters on the nutritional status of affected population. It refers to a situation in which food security is often severely threatened causing increased risk to malnutrition, illness and death.
NPC Maestre described nutrition in emergencies as key nutrition services that are components of emergency preparedness, response and recovery phases aimed at preventing death and worsening of malnutrition in the affected population.
Still citing the mechanics, Maestre said that “during emergency and crisis situations, people’s ability to produce, buy and prepare food is severely affected”. Such situation, she said, “result in increased vulnerability to health and food insecurity and consequently, to malnutrition, with infants and young children being the most vulnerable”.
The contest is open to Filipino citizens, 12 years old and above and the theme should be in Filipino consisting of not more than 10 words. Each individual can only submit one entry through the email address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Deadline for submission of entries is on 31 January 2014.
The Nutrition Program Coordinator has been doing the rounds to convince residents of the region to join in the said competition.
