In the Promotion of Good Nutrition, National Nutrition Council Central Luzon takes up another notch in the advocacy of the 10 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) utilizing the common public utility vehicle, the tricycle or three-wheeler as a medium. It has chosen another 6 cities in addition to the first 5 cities each given 100 pieces of NGF tarpaulin streamers last year. Through this massive information drive, the promotion of NGF will be highly disseminated throughout Central Luzon.

In each area, a simple program which commences with the discussion of the 10 NGF culminates with the tricycle drivers signing a pledge of commitment that will oblige them to responsibly post the NGF tarpaulin streamers at the back of their tricycles from August 2014 onwards.

For this year, the initial area covered for the turn-over of the NGF tarpaulins took place at Malolos City las August 7, 2014. The City Nutrition Committee headed by City Administrator Rizaldy Mendoza and City Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Evangeline Paguntalan graced the event. Malolos City recognized the aim and importance of the activity hence City Administrator Mendoza has committed to provide more NGF tarpaulins around the city.

The second area was Olongapo City on 8 August 2014 where NNC Region III was welcomed by the City Nutritionist Ms. Ruth Devilliena and City Nutrition Program Coordinator Dr. Ana Figuerres. The activity took place at Barangay Pag-asa, Olongapo City where the Tricycle Owners and Diver’s Assosciation (TODA) Presidents of Zones II and VI attended as representatives in the event.

Other cities around the region are scheduled to be covered within August to highlight the observance of Breastfeeding Week/Month following the agreed schedule with the Local Government Units, Mabalacat City on August 15, 2014 and Tarlac City on August 15, 2014, Cabanatuan City on August 28, 2014 and Gapan City on August 29, 2014. To ensure success in each NGF Promotion, NNC Region III partners with the Nutrition Committees for their continued support in the over-all management of the event.

Finally, it is hoped that NNC Central Luzon can influence more Local Government Units to continuously support various strategies for NGF promotion region wide.
