The National Nutrition Council Central Luzon detained the launching of the revised 2012 Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) to ensure its fastest and widest dissemination. The NNC Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos planning workshop aims to equip the Local Government Units, the Regional Nutrition Committee and the media to formulate plans on the improvement of the nutritional status through the promotion of NGF.
Through joined effort of the Local Government Units, Regional Nutrition Committee and the Media around Central Luzon, information dissemination would be faster covering a wider scale for the promotion of NGF aiming for nutrition and health oriented community region wide.
The activity was briefed by Ms. Benjielyn E. Estudillo, Nutrition Officer II of Region 02. She stated the rationale, the expected output from the workshop and explained the 10 NGF for the participant’s information.
Mr. Domingo Fugaban, member of Balay ni Ifan, the Local Media Group of Region II shared the achievements and experiences of the group to the participants including media personalities present in the event to inspire them to plan for possible activities utilizing the radio, television and print. Mr. Perry Pangan of RW 95.1 FM, the Pampanga Press Club president, shared the history and the success behind the press club committed that from that day forward, Pampanga Press Club would be an active partner of NNC Region III in the dissemination of information related to health and nutrition.
Ms. Angelita M. Pasos, NO III, NNNC Region 03 discussed the regional situationer: defined the problems, gave the extent and magnitude, those who are affected and the factors associated with child malnutrition. She explained that the same group have been briefed on the current situation of Region in the past 3 months, during the conferences, meetings so she dealt mainly the major problems on undernutrition, overnutrition and micronutrient malnutrition among preschool and school children affecting Region III. She shared the 2012 OPT result and SY 2012-2013 school weighing result, particularly the provinces and cities.
The participants actively contributed to the production of plans related to their on-going activities and the possible development of new sustainable programs on NGF for the remaining months ahead. Ideas were raised afterwards where the groups used Media programs like radio, television and print to disseminate the information. IEC materials were also considered, such as the distribution of fans, stickers, tarpaulins, flyers, streamers and posters with printed NGF messages. OIC-NPC Rhodora G. Maestre approved of the proposed activity the next day. The NNC Region III staffs are of big hope that this event is the start of fast information dissemination throughout Central Luzon.
