F1K photoLocal chief executives from Quezon province led by Governor David C. Suarez, Chair of the Provincial Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Council signed the Memorandum of Agreement adopting the First 1000 Days (F1K) Program of the National Nutrition Council on December 9, 2016. Governor Suarez was joined by Mayor Rachel Ubana of Lopez, Mayor Cristina Bosque of Polillo, Mayor Marcelino Gayeta of Sariaya. Mayor Macario Boongaling of Candelaria, Mayor Joselito Alega represented by Councilor Carmelita Cortez of San Francisco, Mayor Joselita Ojeda represented by Vice Mayor Ponciano Rejano, Mayor Fernando Mesa of Alabat represented by Councilor Redentor Mesa and Mayor Roderick Alcala of Lucena City represented by City Administrator Ms. Mary Mitzi Co.  ALONA Partylist Representative, Anna Marie Villaraza-Suarez was also present to lead in the Pledge of Commitment following the signing of the MOA.

The F1K program or the Early Childhood Care and Development Intervention Package for the First 1000 Days is a comprehensive program for the First 1000 days of life from day 1 of pregnancy up to 2 years of life. It aims to ensure full development of the child through integrated delivery of services on health, nutrition, psychosocial stimulation, early education, and social services.

The MOA is a tripartite agreement between the National Nutrition Council represented by Regional Nutrition Program Coordinator Ms. Carina Z. Santiago, the provincial government of Quezon, and the eight target areas of the F1K program that allows the LGU to adopt the program in their areas and will be given budget allotment for the implementation of the program until 2018.

The event was also attended by the Provincial Nutrition Multi-Sectoral Committee members, City and Municipal Nutrition Committees of the 8 targeted areas in Quezon province as well as the Communicators’ Network for Nutrition in Region -4A (CNN-4A), the region’s local media group.
