29 September 2015 – National Nutrition Council MiMaRoPa holds its Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony at Hotel Jen Manila, Pasay City. Local government units (LGUs), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), regional line agencies, organizations and individuals who gave exemplary efforts and support throughout the course of fight against malnutrition in the region were awarded through the recommendation of the MiMaRoPa Regional Nutrition Committee.
Around 120 attended the ceremony which are composed of (4) Local Chief Executives including Mayor Juan M. Sanchez of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro, Mayor Jackson Dy of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, Mayor Roberto M. Madla of Boac, Marinduque and Mayor Russel S. Madrigal of Buenavista, Marinduque; Regional Nutrition Committee (RNC) including Director James F. Fadrilan of Department of Interior and Local Government IV-B (DILG), Director Wilma D. Naviamos of Department of Social Welfare and Development IV-B (DSWD), Director Romeo C. Escandor of National Economic and Development Authority IV-B (NEDA), and Director Eduardo C. Janairo of Department of Health IV-B (DOH); Regional Nutrition Evaluation Team (RNET), Provincial/City Nutrition Action Officers (P/CNAOs), District/City Nutrition Program Coordinators (D/CNPCs), Officers of the media group; PROMO NutriCom (Palawan, Romblon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Occidental Mindoro Nutrition Communicators), BNS Federation of Region IV-B and this year’s awardees.
Major awards given during the ceremony are:
- Green Banner Award - Outstanding Municipality in the Province and in the Region - Roxas, Oriental Mindoro.
- Green Banner Award - Outstanding Province in the Region – Oriental Mindoro
- Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar – Ms. Karen V. Dueñas, Barangay Bagong Sikat, Lubang, Occidental Mindoro
- Best Performing City – Calapan City
- Most Promising Local Government Units (LGUs) – Occidental Mindoro, Puerto Princesa City and Lubang, Occidental Mindoro
- LGUs with lowest malnutrition prevalence – Mansalay, Victoria and Puerta Galera, Oriental Mindoro.
- Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Committee – Brgy. Puting Buhangin, Boac, Marinduque.
- Outstanding Nutrition Action Officer in the Region –Ms. Maria Luisa L. Ligsa, Boac, Marinduque
- 2nd Year CROWN Maintenance Award – Mogpog, Marinduque
Also, the finalists for the Regional Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars and Regional Barangay Nutrition Committees were recognized. On the other hand, special citations were given to leading nutrition supporters of the region and non-government organizations for their invaluable contribution as an advocate of good nutrition and unrelenting support in fighting malnutrition. The acknowledged nutrition supporters of the region are as follows:
- Director Romeo C. Escandor of NEDA – MiMaRoPa;
- Director Wilma V. Naviamos of DSWD – MiMaRoPa;
- Director Eduardo C. Janairo of DOH – MiMaRoPa
- Kabisig ng Kalahi

- Ayala Foundation
- Plan International
All awardees received plaques of recognition; Green Banners for the outstanding Local government units, and trophy for the 2nd year CROWN Maintenance Awardee; and cash prize for the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars. Lastly, uplifting and challenging the people of MiMaRoPa, Municipal Mayor Jackson C. Dy of Roxas, Oriental Mindoro delivered a response message being the outstanding municipality in the region. Another highlight of the ceremony was the keynote message of Assistant Regional Director of Department of Health – MiMaRoPa, Director Faith Alberto who instills inspiration to the audience to strive more in eradicating malnutrition in the region.
The Ceremony ended with a closing message from Director James F. Fadrilan of DILG – MiMaRoPa and lighting of flashlight tokens by the participants with the tune from a song titled “flashlight” by Jessie J.
