avetp weight loss articleMany people are trying different kinds of diet because of the influence of social media and for the reason to get fit or to have a summer body in a wink of an eye. These diets are mostly weight loss program diets that will give rapid results. These are considered as Fad Diets with no prescription from doctors or dietitians.

Fad Diets also known as crash diets are dietary regimen that promotes weight loss. Most fad diets today promote low carbohydrate diet which aims to reduce the insulin level in the body.  Insulin helps in controlling the sugar level in the blood and stores it in the liver and muscles for future use. In the same way, when the insulin level drops, the amount of stored fat in the body also decreases. This is how mostly fad diet works for the person to lose weight.

The National Nutrition Council as the highest policy making body on nutrition, promotes healthy food plate and food guide pyramid in having a proper diet and weight reduction. NNC Governing Board approved a policy statement of fad diets as explained in the RNC Resolution No. 4, series 2018. The policy declares that NNC does not recommend the use of fad diets for weight loss as this may cause health risk and dangers. (The full Policy Statement on Fad Diets can be found on this link https://www.nnc.gov.ph/index.php/downloads/category/23-board-resolution.html)

Successful weight loss is composed of 80% diet and 20% exercise.  Weight loss requires an individualized and interdisciplinary approach, it is a combination of consumption of healthy diet, physical activity, and behavior modification.

Absolutely, there is really no short cuts on weight loss.  Remember, “you didn’t gain all your weight in one day; you won’t lose it in one day, be patient with yourself; if you have discipline , drive and determination, nothing is impossible”  (Jenna Wolfe).  Always consult first a Doctor or Licensed Dietitians before trying a diet.
