Quezon City – NNC MIMAROPA conducted a series of online monitoring sessions to the three Nutriskwela community radio stations in the region – Radyo Kamalindig (DZNS-FM 94.1 MHz) in Buenavista, Marinduque, Radyo Kapalayawan (DWNH-FM 100.1 MHz)  in Paluan, Occidental Mindoro and Radyo Kaunlaran (DZNI-FM 99.7 MHz), in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro.

Due to the restrictions brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, on-site monitoring activities of National Nutrition Council were suspended. Despite this, NNC – MIMAROPA tries to adapt to the new normal by using online platforms in the conduct of such activities to continue provision of technical assistance and coordination with its stakeholders.

Nutrition Officer III Camille Chen and Nutrition Officer II Bianca Estrella were joined by Ms. Yurika Pearl Gapilango and Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Rubi Apiag last 15 October for the monitoring of Radyo Kamalindig. Moreover, the monitoring team was assisted by Acting Station Manager Christian De Lemos of Radyo Kapalayawan and Station Manager Cresentina Salapare of Radyo Kaunlaran for their respective monitoring schedules held 17 and 18 November 2020.

One common denominator mentioned from the three monitoring activities was that the radio stations were able to help the community through its information dissemination services especially about the updates and safety protocols regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Although there are challenges identified, they were still able to share relevant information on health, nutrition, and development issues which their community are grateful of.

Conducting the monitoring virtually is a strategy of NNC MIMAROPA to continue its coordination to the Nutriskwela Community Radio Stations and provide appropriate recommendations to further enhance their operations. (BLVMEstrella)
