National Nutrition Council – MIMAROPA convened the Regional Nutrition Committee, Regional Technical Working Group in Nutrition and Regional Nutrition Cluster for a virtual meeting last 27 November 2020 with twenty-one participants (21) from the seventeen (17) regional line agencies attended.
Dr. Mario S. Baquilod, Chair of RNC and Regional Director of Center for Health and Development MIMAROPA presided the meeting. He also provided the updates of COVID-19 situation in the region as of 25 November 2020 with 1, 906 cumulative number of cases. Out of the total cases, 1,487 are local cases while 419 are imported (transmission happened outside of the region). There was a total of 124 active cases and 21 newly identified cases. “Last few months from March, nag-increase tayo nung August-September then bumaba ng last week of September-October. Unfortunately nitong November, we are noticing increasing cases. Last few weeks we’re just reporting less than 100 cases, now we have 124,” Dr. Baquilod stated on his update. “We have laboratories in the region, newly opened ang Culion Sanitarium and of course ang Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital. We are planning for other provinces to have COVID-19 laboratory,” RD Baquilod added.
Moreover, the virtual meeting was then highlighted by the approval of the RNC Resolution No. 2, s. 2020: “Requesting the Regional Development Council (RDC) of MIMAROPA through the Regional Social Development Committee (RSDC) to Enjoin All Local Government Units (LGUs) to Strengthen the Integration of Nutrition-Related Programs and Projects and Scale-Up Nutrition Integration in their 2021-2022 Annual Investment Plans (AIP) to Address the Current Nutritional Problems and the Possible Effects of COVID-19 Pandemic in the Health and Nutrition Situation.” The approved resolution will be presented to the Regional Social Development Committee next year for its endorsement to the Regional Development Council.
Last agenda of the meeting was the review of 2019 accomplishments in Regional Nutrition Action Plan for Nutrition (RPAN) 2019-2022. This aimed to determine if the targets for each programs, projects and activities committed by the agencies are being met and to identify adjustments needed to meet the targets in 2022.
With the approval of RNC Resolution No. 2 and the review of the RPAN accomplishments, NNC MIMAROPA together with the regional line agencies, is determined to improve the nutrition situation in the region. (BLVMEstrella)
