Egg

Eggs are the most widely available source of cheap, quality protein. One reason why people prefer eating eggs is because it is easy to prepare and can be cooked in countless ways. Most people want their egg cooked as sunny side up, some preferred boiled, others choose scrambled. In the Philippines, it is usually served for breakfast along with fried rice, a classic combination known as “Silog” meals. Silog meals are partnered with different kinds of cooked meats, with pickled or fresh vegetables as side dishes.

Nutrition content of eggs

Do you know what nutrients an egg contains? How many calories do an egg have? Is it safe to eat more than one egg per day?

Eggs are excellent source of complete protein and variety of nutrients. It contains high quality of amino acids to build muscles. Most of the body builders consume more than one egg per day for them to build muscles.

Eggs also contains high amount of good cholesterol which is needed in producing specific hormones. In the contrary, having high cholesterol levels in the blood can cause accumulation of fat in the arteries which may narrow the bloodstream that constricts the blood flow. Thus, it may result to elevated blood pressure or in a more serious note, it may lead to heart attack if not prevented. According to Dr. Celeste C. Tanchoco, Scientist III, Department of Science and Technology - Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI), eating one egg a day is unlikely to have substantial increase in blood lipid. Dr. Tanchoco promotes to have an active lifestyle such as weight maintenance, regular exercise and follow the dietary guidelines and lifestyle approach to disease risk reduction to prevent from having cardiovascular diseases.
