The National Nutrition Council MIMAROPA conducted a virtual monitoring of Local Nutrition Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security to implementing LGUs Coron and Narra, Palawan for 2020. The monitoring was attended by the Municipal LNEWS Core Group of Coron and Narra, Palawan and held last 19 February and 23 March 2021, respectively. 

The Early Warning System for Food and Nutrition Security is a component of the Philippine Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (PFNSS) that is intended to enable LGUs to take timely nutrition action through early detection of a worsening nutrition situation based on monitoring of nutrition and nutrition-related indicators. In the MIMAROPA Region, three municipalities are being monitored annually under the LNEWS PFNSS to monitor program implementation and provide technical inputs to target LGUs.

According to the LNEWS Core Groups, this program was very useful in determining warning in food scarcity, price hike and climate conditions that may cause food insecurity in households. Moreover, MNAO Cervancia of Narra, Palawan said that the program will assist them in easier identifying households in providing needed nutrition interventions and nutrition-related services to improve the nutritional status of children in every household. As for MNAO Balbutan of Coron, Palawan she said that even if there was pandemic which caused lockdown and delays in encoding data, they will continue to formulate analysis and recommendation in their identified problems based on their gathered data to provide necessary interventions in their community. 

NNC MIMAROPA will continually monitor and provide technical assistance and support to Local Government Units in implementing programs to promote its advocacy in improving the nutritional status of every child and every households to be food secured in the region.
