NNC MIMAROPA participated in the First Quarter Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC) Meeting chaired by RSCWC Chair and DSWD MIMAROPA Regional Director Fernando R. De Villa Jr., CESO III.

The RSCWC is the major counterpart structure of the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) at the sub-national level and serves as the critical link between the national and the local government. As a governance structure, it provides direct assistance to LGUs and is accountable to both the Regional Development Council (RDC) and the Council for the Welfare of Children. It also promotes and enhances regional coordination and harmonization of efforts for the protection and well being of children.

Agenda of the meeting include 2020 Accomplishments, 2021 Plans and Programs (CWC Thrusts and Directions, 2021 RSCWC Work and Financial Plan, Result of the 3rd National Plan of Action for Children Midterm Review Result, the Philippine Plan of Action to End Violence Against Children (PPAEVAC), Updates on Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit and Seal of Child Friendly Local Governance, and the Regional Child Protection Working Group (RCPWG).

After the discussions, NPC-OIC Ma. Eileen B. Blanco shared to the group the 2021 Nutrition Month theme, to encourage member agencies in preparation for the upcoming 2021 NM celebration. She presented the rationale behind the theme which calls for continued efforts to address malnutrition in the country which is expected to worsen because of the pandemic and limited resources for nutrition, as well as for all sectors to focus efforts on the First 1000 Days of life as the strategic intervention to prevent stunting and obesity.

As member agency, the NNC MIMAROPA will continue to contribute to the strengthening of the RSCWC through active participation in all meetings and activities, and continuously advocate for the protection and promotion of children’s rights at all sub-regional administrative levels.
