National Nutrition Council MIMAROPA conducted its online monitoring of Radyo Kamalindig located in the Municipal Hall Compound, Buenavista, Marinduque. The team composed of NPC Ma. Eileen Blanco, NO III Camille Chen and NO II Bianca Estrella were joined by Ms. Yurika Pearl Gapilango, one of the anchors of the station.
Radyo Kamalindig was established by the National Nutrition Council in partnership with the Municipal Government of Buenavista under the Nutriskwela Community Radio Network Program Phase IV. “Kamalindig” was derived from Mt. Malindig located in the municipality with the Community Radio Council adopted the term to imply “the community is protecting the forest and its environment.” It began its broadcast operation on 18 March 2015.
Ms. Gapilango highlighted the importance of the radio in the community delivering updates from the government, public service, health and nutrition information, and entertainment. “Hinahanap po kami, may tumatawag, nagtetext, lalo na ng mga seniors kapag nawawalan ng airing,” as she shared. There were instances that the station signed-off earlier than scheduled to facilitate disinfection procedures as its municipal government released an order for twice a month disinfection of their compound including the radio station to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Children also benefited from the information disseminated in the station as mentioned by Ms. Gapilango. One of its segments featuring nutritious recipes helps mothers in preparing healthy dishes for their kids. Simple recipes incorporating vegetables to the dish make the children enjoy nutrient-filled foods.
Additionally, Philippine Information Agency has tied up with Radyo Kamalindig to air its local news. “Ang commercial radio stations sa amin, nakukuha lang sya sa bahagi ng Boac, ngayon, pagdating ng Buenavista to Gasan, Radyo Kamalindig na lang yung pwedeng mapakinggan” as shared by Ms. Gapilango, thus provincial office of PIA extends its gratitude to the station for informing more people. Governor Velasco is also thankful for the station as his radio program also reaches the citizens of Buenavista and Gasan.
Overall, online monitoring was conducted fruitfully. NNC MIMAROPA looks forward in conducting an on-site monitoring to personally visit and check the operation of Radyo Kamalindig as COVID-19 situation gets better.
