05 2021 18 BNS TOT 2 of 3
The second day of the Training on Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Basic Course was led by NNC MIMAROPA staff Nutrition Officer III Ms. Camille Chen, Nutrition Officer II Ms. Bianca Estrella, and Nutrition Officer I Ms. Nichole Loyola. 26 attendees from LGUs Palawan Province and Puerto Princesa City participated via Zoom Application on 25 May 2021.

The training content is packaged into five modules. Traditionally, it is a five-day session, however due to constraints brought by COVID-19, it was optimized into a three-day training.

Day 2 covered the following topics:

Module 3: Preparing the BNS in Performing their Roles and Functions (Part 2) This latter part of the module equips the BNS with important five skills – advocacy; documentation, report writing and record keeping; time management; organizing; and coordinating skills needed to effectively perform their roles and functions.

Module 4: Situating the Barangay Nutrition Program in the Local Development System This module situates the BNS program in the overall local development system, provides a better understanding of Nutrition Program Management in terms of principles, characteristics and uses, and the organization, mobilization, or reactivation of the barangay nutrition committee (BNC).

Module 5: The Barangay Nutrition Scholar in Action (Part 1) This first part of the module explains the roles of BNSs in Barangay Nutrition Program Management.

To fully improve the documenting skills of BNSs, PNAO Rachel Paladan of Palawan Province provided tip as to include 5Ws and 1H (who, what, where, when, why, how) upon formulation of minutes of the meeting and BNS diaries. Furthermore, the provincial nutrition office of Palawan is extremely willing to aid any form of assistance on condition that face-to-face meetings are permitted.
