Through the Executive Oder No. 29, s. 2017, the National Disaster Resilience Month is observed every July throughout the country. The observance, as detailed in the NDRRMC Memorandum No. 61 s. 2021, emphasizes the importance of disaster risk reduction and management and the need to understand disaster risks, enhancing community disaster preparedness, strengthening risk governance, investing in disaster risk reduction (DRR), increasing DRR disaster advocacy programs, enhancing preparedness for effective response and to “Build Back Better” recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction. Also, the month of July marks the start of the wet or typhoon season highlighting the need to prepare for the same.
In line with the observance, National DRRM Council encourages all member agencies and the regional and local DRRM Councils to conduct activities relative to building disaster resilience covering the four thematic areas: prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response and rehabilitation and recovery, and enjoined to participate and promote the activities organized by the NDRRMC
