The Department of Education MIMAROPA region recently conducted a virtual forum entitled “Oplan Kalusugan sa DepEd: Oplan Healthy MIMAROPANs: A Nutrition Month Culminating Activity” in line with their agency’s Nutrition Month celebration held last 26 July 2021 through Google Meet platform. The forum aimed to discuss good nutrition practices to all the regional office personnel, present the latest information on lifestyle diseases and its prevention, and to celebrate the Nutrition Month through a discussion of the 2021 NM talking points. The activity was attended by 88 participants from DepEd MIMAROPA regional office.
The Education Support Services Division (ESSD) of Department of Education organized the activity while Ms. Keren Gaya, Nutritionist-Dietitian III of DepEd MIMAROPA and member of the Regional Technical Working Group on Nutrition facilitated the whole program. The activity started with preliminaries followed by opening message of Mr. Nicolas Capulong, the Regional Director of DepEd MIMAROPA and Statement of Purpose by Dr. Maria Anna Irene San, Division Head of ESSD. The activity has three parts: these were the 47th Nutrition Month, Good Nutrition Practices, and Discussion on lifestyle Disease and Prevention.
Nutrition Officer I Ace Patriarca led the discussion on the 47th Nutrition Month Celebration, discussing salient points relevant to DepEd’s role, functions and mandates. He shared the importance of providing proper nutrition and optimum health during pregnancy and in the first two years of the child. He then discussed the objectives of the campaign and how to support the nutrition program as an individual, within the family and in the government. He ended with the call to action for nutrition which states “Let us all work together to eliminate all forms of malnutrition, raise a new Laking 1000 generation of Filipinos achieving their full potential.”
The NNC MIMAROPA will continually provide necessary technical assistance such as resource person in delivering factual information on nutrition and constantly educate and promote good nutrition in the region.
