NNC MIMAROPA conducted reorientation on Local Nutrition Emergency Warning System - Food and Nutrition Security (LNEWS-FNS) to the household data collectors and municipal core group of Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro this 24th of February 2022, 1:30 PM via Zoom Application.
The activity was participated by NNC MIMAROPA staff NO III Camille Chen, PNFP Nichole Loyola, NO I Sean Barredo, and NO I Jhanna Torres along with MNAO Jessa Obrador, MHO-OIC Dr. John Paul Balbuena, BNS Angeline Del Rosario, BNS Maria Cristina Carzon, BNS Yda Dela Cruz, and BNS Marie Rose Garcia.
The National Nutrition Council is mandated to monitor implementation of the LNEWS FNS, as part of the Philippine Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (PFNSS). Through LNEWS FNS, timely nutrition action through early detection of a worsening nutrition situation is made based on monitoring of nutrition and nutrition-related indicators.
The municipality of Abra de Ilog has been selected to implement the LNEWS-FNS program since 2015. Reason for this is that they have been consistently ranking the highest among prevalence rates of underweight, stunting, and wasting across all municipalities in the province, and even in the region.
Actual use of household survey form, household survey data entry tool, and municipal monitoring tool system has been demonstrated, and household data collectors and municipal core group were refreshed on steps to data collection. Further, actions to be taken and timely submission of quarter reports were highlighted.
Subsequent to this reorientation, NNC MIMAROPA shall conduct a follow-up meeting for remobilization of LNEWS-FNS Municipal Core Group of Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro consisting of one (1) team leader and at least 5 to 7 members to guarantee well-implementation of the system.
