The National Nutrition Council is mandated to monitor implementation of the LNEWS FNS, as part of the Philippine Food and Nutrition Surveillance System (PFNSS). Through LNEWS FNS, timely nutrition action through early detection of a worsening nutrition situation is made based on monitoring of nutrition and nutrition-related indicators.
Upon review of the second semestral reports, it has been found that food prices of chicken and pork were at price alert due to increased prices of feeds and transporting of livestock and poultry. Also, fruits were less consumed by households due to price hike since they are imported from Metro Manila.
The municipality of Coron, Palawan has been selected to implement the LNEWS-FNS program since 2015. Recent monitoring showed that only four (4) municipal core group members have retained in the team. The LGU is experiencing budgetary restrictions as no fund were allocation for the LNEWS-FNS program. Finally, submission of reports was emphasized to ensure timely submission quarterly.
NNC MIMAROPA shall provide assistance in the municipality of Coron in reorganizing its municipal core group to address food and nutrition insecurity in its five (5) sentinel barangays. May this year 2022 be the start of hopeful and improved implementation of LNEWS-FNS program.
