NNC MIMAROPA represented by Provincial Nutrition Focal Point Jhanna Camela C. Torres conducted a Tutok Kainan Dietary Supplementation Program monitoring visit at Rizal, Occidental Mindoro assisted by Municipal Nutrition Action Officer Ms. Katreen Pearl Laredo, Ms. Riza Soriano and Ms. Jona Gregorio.
The team visited Barangay Malawaan and were welcomed by Barangay Nutrition Scholar Ms. Rizalene Frances Fernandez. Upon arrival of the monitoring team, BNS Fernandez and BHWs were currently preparing the hot meals to be distributed to a total of 52 beneficiaries.
Next is Barangay Sto NiƱo, the team were greeted by BNS Ms. Merlita Obamos which was currently cooking hot meals for the beneficiaries. She also happily presented her own office given by the former Brgy. Captain and also the commodities given by Convoy of Hope Philippines, a non-government organization, for their feeding program.
Lastly, one of the farthest barangay from the town proper and the largest in terms of population is Barangay Manoot. The team were welcomed by BNS Ms. Arlin Samar. She eagerly shared that they already noticed the improved nutritional status of their beneficiaries.
Extensive advocacy sessions are greatly needed in order to somehow fill the gap in implementing nutrition programs not only in the MIMAROPA region but also in other parts of the Philippines. We are earnestly hoping that more and more local chief executives see that nutrition plays a vital role in every community because with proper nutrition, the community will surely eliminate all forms of malnutrition.
