12179614 10153235634893753 1420048641 nKnowledge, skills and positive attitude on Nutrition Program Management (NPM) is necessary to effectively and efficiently respond to local nutrition situation with appropriate interventions.

On 19-23 October 2015, the National Nutrition Council Region V conducted one batch of training on NPM for newly designated nutrition action officers and other members to enhance their capability and strengthen the capacities of the nutrition committee and other local implementers. A total of twenty-six (26) participants coming from the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur and Sorsogon and two cities namely Masbate City and Sorsogon City successfully completed the 5-day training-workshop held at Jennifer’s Kababayan Hotel, Legazpi City.

The training aimed to enhance the knowledge, skill and attitude of participants along the key processes integrated within the whole course of NPM. It was lso expected to help nutrition program managers and local implementers to learn, identify and adopt strategies to ensure functionality of the respective  local nutrition committees.

The training was again facilitated by three experienced trainers on NPM namely Ms. Sheree G. Longaza from Albay, Ms. Raquel B. Buere from Naga City and Ms. Catalina M. Austria of NDAP, Camarines Sur chapter. Marvin Agripa, Nutrition Officer II of NNC served as secretariat during the 5 day training while NPC Reario and Marilyn C. Valeza, NO III provided respective technical inputs on Philippine Plan Of Action for Nutrition and nutirition program management. NPC Reario challenged the new nutrition partners to revitalize local nutrition committees and sustain nutrition program in the field.

With a welll-trained and capable nutrition program managers besides a functional local nutrition committee will result to improved delivery of nutrition services and better coordination based on a more responsive plan of action for nutrition. With these, the group hopes that winning the battle against malnutrition in the region can be achieved faster.
