The National Nutrition Council Bicol continuously promotes exclusive breastfeeding to achieve the overall goal of reducing undernutrition among the children. This is in support to Republic Act 10028, otherwise known as “Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009”, that mandates all health and non-health facilities, establishments or institutions, including public places to establish or provide breastfeeding stations for lactating women/nursing mothers or workers.
The Regional Nutrition Committee passed RNC Resolution No. 1, series 2015 on 23 July 2015, “Requesting the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region V to issue a Directive/Circular requiring All Bus Operators in the Bicol Region to designate a Breastfeeding Seat/BF Corner inside their buses and terminals” in support to RA 10028. To facilitate its implementation, NNC RO V requested NEDA Social Development Committee during its 6 May 2016 to endorse the same resolution to Regional Development Council (RDC).
RDC Bicol Chair, Governor Joey Sarte Salceda during the RDC Full Council Meeting on 3 June 2016, strongly endorsed the resolution to LTFRB and DILG Region V to adopt and implement Breastfeeding in Transit and promote exclusive breastfeeding among mothers, thereby contributing to the improvement of human resources quality and reduction of child and maternal mortality. The interagency TWG on Breastfeeding in Transit led by DOH RO V has been tasked by RNC Chair and OIC-DOH RO V Director Arevalo to monitor the implementation of this Resolution in coordination with LTFRB and DILG.
