Legazpi City. The National Nutrition Council Bicol will give due recognition to local government units that have shown outstanding performance in managing their local nutrition program on Tuesday, 6 December 2016, 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon at The Oriental Hotel, Legazpi City. Likewise, the NNC will honor outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) who have done exemplary performance in their barangays by doing ordinary thing extraordinarily.
Dr. Azucena M. Dayanghirang, new Deputy Executive Director of NNC will be the Keynote Speaker and Guest of Honor during the ceremony. The regional nutrition achievers were determined by an interagency regional evaluation team who conducted the evaluation from 4 May to 27 October 2016 covering the whole region. Around 300 participants who are members of the Regional Nutrition Committee Chaired by RD Napoleon L. Arevalo of DOH Region V, members of the Regional Technical Working Group and regional evaluation team, and members of the nutrition committees at all levels from 6 provinces and 7 cities in the region are expected to witness the celebration.
The local government unit who will receive a Plaque as Top Performing Province on Nutrition in the region is Sorsogon province. The Top Performing City on Nutrition is Tabaco City with Legazpi City as the 2nd placer. For the Outstanding in the Municipality in the province or Green Banner (GB) Award, this will be received by LGU Bulusan for Sorsogon, and LGU Guinobatan for Albay.
Other awards to be given include the 2015 Top 10 Performing Barangays in Nutrition, 12 LGUs in the region with the Lowest Prevalence of Malnutrition in 2015 (with at least 80% weighing coverage) and a Special Award for Naga City as the most efficient LGU in the region in nutrition program implementation.
NNC will also recognize the 2015 Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholars with plaque and cash award. The Regional Outstanding BNS is BNS Wedona B. Ariola of Quitago, Guinobatan, Albay; 1st Runner-up is BNS Jocelyn B. Buena of Panicuason, Naga City while the 2nd Runner-up is BNS Merly B. Lopez of Barangay 22 Binanuahan East, Legazpi City. Six more outstanding provincial and city BNS will receive their respective certificate and cash award from NNC.
The efficient and effective implementation of the nutrition program not only resulted to sustained reduction of malnutrition among the children in the community but has also given honor and prestige to performing LGUs.
