Sorsogon City. WFP together with the provincial government of Sorsogon and NNC Bicol will conduct training on nutrition in emergency for the municipalities of Irosin and Juban in the province of Sorsogon. Both these municipalities are prone to emergency due to the threat of typhoon and volcanic eruptions. At least 20 members of the municipal disaster reduction and coordinating council from each municipality are expected to attend this training. As members of the municipal nutrition committee, the same group will act as the members of the municipal nutrition cluster, a sub-cluster of the local disaster risk reduction and management council (LDRRMC). Ms. Salome Navales, the Municipal Nutrition Action Officer of Irosin said that “This is a timely training as we want to ensure that the vulnerable groups such as the infants, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly and the persons with disability are given extra care and love, particularly during emergency situations.” For her part, NPC Arlene R. Reario of NNC Bicol affirmed the need to capacitate members of the provincial and municipal nutrition clusters to ensure that they are ready to respond to the nutrition needs during emergencies and disasters. She added that one of the important outputs of the training is the formulation of the Nutrition in Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery Plan in the 2 municipalities.
