NNC Bicol a CPD Provider of the Philippine Regulation CommissionThe Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) accredited the National Nutrition Council Bicol as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Provider on April 20, 2022. Four (4) regional activities were approved for this year and the first program to be implemented with PRC-CPD units is Training on Nutrition Program Management (NPM) for District/City and Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinators and nutrition implementers. The training is applied with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) units for selected professions, which is first in NNC Bicol. The training is created specifically for newly appointed M/CNAOs and the Nutrition Program Coordinator in their respective city/municipality and province to help them better understand the fundamentals of nutrition.

Local Government Units (LGUs) as service providers are responsible for ensuring that basic services including nutrition, reach those who are most vulnerable to malnutrition in a timely and effective manner. Nutrition Program Management (NPM) knowledge and skills are thus required to respond to local nutrition situations effectively and efficiently with appropriate interventions. Along these lines, on 14-17 June 2022, the National Nutrition Bicol held a four-day live-out training for District/City/ Municipal Nutrition Program Coordinators at Kanzo Hall & Restaurants in Legazpi City, Albay.

The training will improve the capabilities of nutrition implementers through Nutrition Program Management (NPM). The four-day training aims to strengthen local nutrition program management by instructing nutrition committees and other nutrition key movers on how to effectively plan, implement, coordinate, monitor, evaluate, and sustain nutrition programs within the context of the overall local governance and development system.

Expert trainers facilitated the activity led by NNC Bicol Officer-in-Charge Marilyn C. Valeza, Ms. Natividad Cardel, retired-Nutrition Officer IV of Legazpi City and Ms. Sheree G. Longaza, Hospital Dietitian of Ago General Hospital. Several activities were provided to participants to improve the capacity of local nutrition action officers and implementors in coordinating and managing nutrition programs, not only to improve their knowledge, skills, and values, but also to continue producing nutrition program champions. The whole module of the book was covered throughout the training. Participants to this training will receive a CPD units from the PRC. One of the outputs produced by participants is the formulation of Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) 2023-2025 of their respective LGU and Re-Entry Plan.  The trained nutrition workers would be a valuable assets of the local government units.
