The Regional Nutrition Strategic Plan of Bicol Region for 2012-2016 was the product of a strategic planning workshop held at the Mayon Spring Resort, Sto. Domingo, Albay from April 17-18, 2012 with follow-up meetings afterwards. This is the final output of a collaborative act among different Individuals, representatives from agencies and LGU partners that comprise the Regional Nutrition Committee of the Bicol Region.
The Bicol RNSP 2012-2016 is consistent with the PPAN 2011-2016 and the Bicol Regional Development Plan. The nutrition plan aims to reduce hunger incidence and poverty in food-poor areas and it will also mitigate protein-energy malnutrition, micronutrient deficiencies, over-nutrition and diet-related non-communicable diseases.
This regional plan serves as a guide for all nutrition stakeholders both local and national so that they move in one and the same direction with clear targets, improved capabilities and a stronger drive to succeed in all nutrition endeavours in the Bicol Region.
The plan consists of the 2011 Nutrition Situation of the Bicol Region which was based from the DOST-FNRI Survey Results of the 2011 Updating of Nutritional Status of children (0-5 years old) that will serve as basis in addressing the malnutrition problem in the country particularly in the Bicol Region. Vision, mission, core values and SWOT Analysis as an output of the planning workshop were also presented to give future directions anchored towards the achievement of the goal and objectives set forth under the Medium Term Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (MTPPAN). Key Result Areas and Success Indicators (KRAs) were identified and determined such as: Organization and Management, Policy Recommendation and Advocacy, partnership building, resource management, capability building and service delivery. The plan is also based on the Regional Strategic Thrusts and core strategies as main guidelines for every KRA.
The Bicol Region Nutrition Strategic Plan, 2012-2016 was first presented by Ms. Arlene R. Reario, Nutrition Program Coordinator of the National Nutrition Council Region V during the Social Development Committee (SDC) Meeting at NEDA V on 31 August 2012 then consequently endorsed by SDC to the Regional Development Council (RDC). Through RDC Resolution No. 33 (s. 2012), lifted from the Minutes of the RDC Full Council Meeting at NEDA V, Legazpi City on 28 September 2012, this plan was endorsed to LGUs and regional line agencies for support and appropriate action.
