Nutri-Radyo ng mga CatandunganVirac, Catanduanes – Blessings were overwhelming Catanduanes during the visit of National Nutrition Council on 23 October 2012 to orient the Catanduanes State University (CSU) on the plan to put-up Nutriskwela Community Radio in CSU Panganiban campus.

Assistant Secretary of Health, Maria-Bernardita T. Flores together with the MQ Mediazone Director Francisco J. Flores had a meeting with the President of CSU, Dr. Minerva I. Morales to orient them on the nutriskwela community radio. Prior to the meeting, Congressman Cesar V. Sarmiento announced that the request of the state colleges to be converted to a state university has been signed by President Benigno Simeon Q. Aquino III last 19 October 2012, under RA 10229.

During the ocular visit in Panganiban campus, there was again another God given opportunity – the newly constructed stockroom qualified, in fact was a perfect structure, for the radio station that will be put up in the campus, according to Mr. Flores. With only a few adjustments, this will be ready for radio testing and broadcasting in January next year. Sometime in December this year, the five designated staff for the nutriskwela community radio will undergo a 3-day training followed by a national conference under the tutelage of MQ Mediazone and NNC. Pledges and support were also gained from local Radyo ng Bayan and PIA officials of the province. In a courtesy call and meeting with Provincial Governor Joseph C. Cua of Catanduanes, he promised to persuade the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) to give their 6 radio towers situated in different parts of the province to be used as relay of the station. It was indeed raining bounty during the Catandungan Festival where good news flooded the fair.

The group conversation ended with the brainstorming of the radio station name. One of the suggested names was “Radyo Kurakog”, emphasizing the qualities of Catandunganons: brave, resilient, strong and with a big heart.
